About the memorial:
Memorial to 2nd Lieutenant Frank Bower, Northumberland Fusiliers. Son of Joshua (tea planter in Ceylon) and Louisa Alexandra Bower of "The Croft," Somerford Keynes, Cricklade, Wiltshire. Educated at ‘Marlburia’, Montreux, the preparatory school of Stancliffe Hall, near Matlock and Repton School. Entered the Royal Military College Sandhurst in Jan 1916. Commissioned into the Northumberland Fusiliers Aug 1916, attached to the Royal Flying Corps. Trained as a pilot in Reading, Netheravon, and Upavon. Gained his wings and appointed a Flying Officer 24 Dec 1916. Completed his training at Gosport and was sent to France on 21 Feb 1917 and served with 60 Squadron RFC. He was mentioned in dispatches (15th May 1917). On 30 Mar 1917 he was flying a Nieuport 23 aircraft and engaged enemy aircraft over Fouquieres. As a result of the combat, he was wounded, and forced to land near Albert. He died as a result of his wounds the next day at Douai, France aged 18 years. Buried in Bray Military cemetery, Bray-sur-Somme, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France.
