About the memorial: Memorial to 2nd Lieutenant William Robert Launcelot Calrow, "C" Company, 1st Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Son of Gerald Walton Calrow and of the late Mabel Selina Calrow (Daughter of Edmund King). Great grandson of William Calrow JP, DL of Walton Lodge, Lancaster. Educated at school in Seascale, Cumberland and Rugby School. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned 17 Sep 1913 into The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, joining his battalion in Aldershot. Deployed to France with his battalion 12 Aug 1914. Fought in the battles of Mons, Marne and Aisne. He was killed instantly by an artillery shell near Vendresse, France. Also commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, La Ferte-sous-Jouarre, Departement de Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France.
