About the memorial: Memorial to Captain William Maynard Carlisle-Crowe, Reserve of Officers, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Son of the late Major General Thomas Carlisle-Crowe and Ellen Maynard Carlisle-Crowe (nee Clarke, eldest daughter of Rev Clarke). Husband of Elizabeth Hannah Stanley Carlisle-Crowe (daughter of Robert Pearce of Loperwood Manor, Hants and widow of Cecil Archer), of Hotel des Etrangers, Ajaccio, Corsica. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst 1890-91. Commissioned into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment 25 Jul 1891. Promoted to Lieutenant Jan 1893. Recalled from the Reserve of Officers in 1914. Killed in action during the First Battle of Ypres aged 42 years. Also commemorated on Panel 8 of the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ypres (Ieper), Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium.
