To the Glory of God and in ever loving memory of Brevet Lieutenant Colonel William Drysdale. DSO 2nd Batt. The Royal Scots. Commanded 7th Service Batt. Leicestershire Regt. Third son of William Drysdale esquire of Kilrie, Fife. Killed in action at Guedecourt, the Somme, France, September 29th 1916 - aged 39 years. Laid to rest near the village of Flers. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". St John XV.v.13.
