About the memorial: Memorial to Lieutenant Francis Du Pre Montagu, 35th Regiment. Only son of Lord William Francis Montagu and Lady Emily Madelina Montagu. Baptised at St Lawrence's Church, Bovingdon on 29 Apr 1834. Killed at the Battle of Alma in the Crimean War aged 20 years.

Lord William Francis Montagu of Bovingdon House in this parish and son of William 5th Duke of Manchester, born Aug 5 1800 died Mar 30, 1842. Also of Francis Du Pre Montagu, Lieut 35th Regt, son of the above (Lord William Francis Montagu of Bovingdon House) born 7 Feb 1837, died at the battle of Alma 20 Sep 1854 aged 20. Lady William Montagu (Emily Madelina) 3rd daughter of James Du Pre Esq of Wilton Park, Co Bucks died 5 Dec 1843.
