About the memorial: A framed, marble tablet showing military history in black incised lettering. The status of this plaque as a war memorial is open to interpretation. Major-General Sir Vere Bonamy Fane KCB KCIE KStJ had a long-standing military career yet it is unclear whether his death was linked to his service. As noted on the 'what is a war memorial' page of this website such dedicatory memorials are judged on a case-by-case basis. This one has been left on the website by War Memorials Trust at 6 March 2020 because the tablet only relates to military accomplishments so could be seen as a war memorial as it indicates the impact of service on the individual.
