Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF / LIEUTENANT FRANCIS WILLIAM WADDILOVE OF HM 53RD REGT / (SECOND SURVIVING SON OF THE REVD W J D WADDILOVE) / WHO FELL THE VICTIM OF A LONG MARCH, ABOUT 250 MILES, FROM LAHORE TO / RAWUL-PINDEE IN THE PUNJAUB, DURING THE VERY HOTTEST PERIOD / OF A SEASON UNUSUAL EVEN IN THE INDIAN CLIMATE; / WHEN ACCORDING TO THE REGISTER KEPT IN THE SURVEYOR GENERAL'S / OFFICE, THE HEAT EXCEEDED 100 DEGREES OF FAHRENHT / DAILY AT NOON IN THE SHADE. / ON THE 20TH APRIL THE ORDERS WERE FOR THE DEPOT TO REMAIN / AL LAHORE TILL THE HEATS WERE OVER, BUT ON THE 27TH THESE ORDERS / WERE SUDDENLY SUPERCEDED BY AN ORDER TO MARCH, AND ON THE 7TH / OF MAY THE 3 COMPANIES LEFT LAHORE, LIEUT W. HAVING CHARGE OF COMP. No 4, / AFTER SEVER SUFFERING BOTH BY MEN AND OFFICERS, / THE SURVIVORS REACHED THEIR DESTINATION ABOUT 28TH OF MAY, / AS ON THE 29TH HE WAS "IN ORDERS" FOR 6 MONTHS SICK LEAVE / TO THE NORTHERN HILLS", IT WAS HOWEVER TOO LATE, AND / ON THE 4TH JUNE 1849 HE DIED OF HE THE FEVER THUS PRODUCED, / AGED 25 YEARS AND ELEVEN MONTHS, / AND HIS REMAINS SLEEP IN THE PLAINS OF RAWFUL-PINDEE, HAVING SERVED HM IN IRELAND, CANADA, NOVA SCOTIA, / AND WEST AND EAST INDIES 7 YEARS. / HIS SORROWING PARENTS ERECT THIS TABLET IN REMEMBRANCE / OF A BELOVED AND DESERVEDLY LAMENTED CHILD / IN THE CATHEDRAL OF HIS NATIVE PLACE, AND IN MEMORY OF THE MANY WHO PERISHED WITH HIM ON THIS FATAL MARCH. / AUGUST 31ST 1849
