About the memorial: Unveiled 26 February 1923 by Mr T. Rhodes J.P. to commemorate the old boys and teachers who had died during WW1. The headmaster Mr L. Rusbridge read out the roll of honour - there were three teachers among the names. 265 boys served during the war - five became Captains, eight became Lieutenants, two won Military Medals and two won Distinguished Conduct Medals and one the Croix de Guerre. There are 40 names on the memorial. St James's school is now closed and the location of the memorial is unknown.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
