About the memorial: The memorial was commissioned and paid for by Mr Tony Larkin representing the Gravesend Historical Association and was unveiled on 8 May 2006 to coincide with the 150 anniversary of the founding of the Victoria Cross. Wombwell Hall was the family home of the Colyer-Fergusson family in Northfleet and Northfleet Technology College (formerly Northfleet School For Boys) was chosen as an appropriate site that was close to the historic home that has been subsequently destroyed.
