About the memorial: Marble tablet, approximately 4 feet 6 inches high by 3 feet 7 inches wide, originally located in the Miners' Memorial Hall (WMO/281001). There are 33 names recorded on the memorial in alphabetical order, with one name being a late entry and added at base of memorial. Recorded are their names, rank, regiment (not for all men), date killed or died of wounds or disease and location. Unveiled on 1 December 1923. It is now located in the foyer of the Community Hall, which was built 2016 and is the central building of a double winged complex of old people's bungalows. The Hall and and tablet together cost £9,000- raised by a £3,000 donation from Pease and Partners (the owners of the local mine) and by weekly deductions from the wages of the local miners.
