About the memorial: Memorial to Captain Benjamin Charles Sparrow, 1st Battalion 39th Garhwal Rifles. Son of Mrs M Sparrow and the late Benjamin Sparrow of 4 Delgany Villas, Crownhill, Devon. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned on 8 Jan 1901. Served with the Berkshire Regiment. Promoted to Lieutenant 22 Sep 1904. Transferred from the Berkshire Regiment to the 98th Infantry, Indian Army. Joined the 1st Battalion 39th Garhwal Rifles in 1908. Promoted to Captain 8 Jan 1910. Killed in action aged 33 years when serving in France with his battalion. Commemorated on Sp. Mem. 3. of Laventie Military Cemetery, Laventie, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. He is also commemorated on the Ermington War Memorial, Devon.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
