About the memorial: Memorial to 2nd Lieutenant Frederic George Garrard, MC, 2nd Battalion the Gordon Highlanders. Son of Frederic William and Elizabeth Garrard of Coulsdon, Surrey. Educated at Whitgift School, South Croydon, Surrey. Under Officer in L Company, Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1917. Commissioned into the Gordon Highlanders (London Gazette 4 Jul 1917). Awarded the Military Cross (London Gazette 16 Sep1918) "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading a raiding party. He was dangerously wounded, but seeing another officer, who had been wounded and could not get away, he went and dragged him back for 50 or 60 yards till he got assistance from some other men". Died of wounds received on Asiago plateau on 16 May 1918 aged 20 years. Buried in Plot 1. Row B. Grave 1. of Dueville Communal Cemetery Extension, Dueville, Provincia di Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. Also commemorated on a memorial plaque at Whitgift School, Surrey, on a war memorial in Coulsdon, Greater London and on a memorial at Purley Hospital, London.

Frederic George Garrard, MC, 2nd Lieut 2nd Bn Gord Highrs. Died at Dueville, Italy 22 May 1918 of wounds received on Asiago Plateau, 16th May aged 20. Under Officer L Coy 1917.
