	News was received in Grantham this week that Major John Edward Thompson Pim, M.B.E. of the Lincolnshire Regiment, has been killed in action in Italy. It is believed that at the time he was leading his company. His battalion, which he had only joined recently, is comprised of many men from Grantham and South Lincolnshire.   Major Pim was the son of the late Major and Mrs J. Pim of Norman Levs, Grantham. After the death of Mrs Pim in 1932, the family went to live at Elm House, and Major Pim died two and a half years later.   His son, who was 36. Was born at Grantham and educated in Devonshire and at Rossal School, Lancs, going from there to Sandhurst Military College, and received his commission in the Lincolnshire Regiment before he was 20 He immediately went with the Regiment to India and had also seen service before the present war at Khartoum, Gibraltar and the Far East, including Shanghai and Hong Kong. He returned to India, coming home in 1937, when he took a staff course.
	At the commencement of the war he went to France on the headquarters staff of a division commanded by General Montgomery, and was in the Dunkirk evacuation. It was shortly after this, in July 1940, that Major Pim, then a captain received the M.B.E. for gallant service in action “in connection with recent operations.” He went overseas again in 1942. It is interesting to record that he was the third member of his family to be honoured for service to their country.   Both his father and mother were decorated with the O.B.E., Mrs. Pim rendered valuable and conspicuous service as Commandant of the Grantham Red Cross Hospital during the Great War, and her husband served with the 1st and 2nd Battalions, Lincolnshire Regiment being with the latter on his retirement in 1903. He served in the Boer War and in France during the Great War.   The military tradition is also being carried on by his daughter, Miss Norah Pim [sic](sister of Major J.E.T. Pim) who in November, 1938, was appointed to command the local company of A.T.S.   She now holds the rank of Chief Commander (equivalent of Lieutenant-Colonel). Another sister, Miss Sue Pim, married Dr. J. H. Hopper, of Grantham, in 1939, and lives in Welby Gardens. At that time, Dr. Hopper was medical officer attached to the Lincolnshire Regiment and was wounded in France. He has since returned overseas and holds the rank of captain.

Recorded M.I. Violet May Pim wife of Major John Pim died 11 Feb 1032 age 60. Major John Pim died 16 Nov 1934 age 75. Norah Violet Middleton Pim, elder daughter died at Barrowby 8 Jan 1990 age 84. Major John E. T. Pim, M B E., Lincolnshire Regiment, killed in action in Italy 8 Feb 1944, buried in Minturno Military Cemetery, Italy. Stella Margaret Law, granddaughter of Major John and Violet Pim, died in Hong Kong 20 Aug 1990 age 44, wife of Richard Law and daughter of Dr. And Mrs. James Hopper.
