About the memorial: Memorial to 10/1266 Private Geoffrey Arthur Ilbert, 1st Battalion Auckland Regiment, N.Z.E.F. Youngest son of Owen Ilbert and Mary Elizabeth Ilbert (née Elder). Grandson of the Rev Peregrine Arthur Ilbert, Rector of All Saints, Thurlestone. Brother of Mr Peregrine Edward Ilbert of 4 Church Street, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. Killed in action aged 33 years. Buried in grave II.E.28. of the London Rifle Brigade Cemetery, Comines-Warneton, Arrondissement de Mouscron, Hainaut, Belgium (near Ploegsteert). He is also commemorated on Panel 1 of the Auckland Grammar School War Memorial, Auckland, New Zealand.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

In memory of Geoffrey Arthur Ilbert, Private (acting stretcher bearer) 1st Auckland Infantry Batt (New Zealand). Youngest son of Owen Ilbert. Grandson of the Rev P A Ilbert, who gave his life for his Country and his fellow men 28th Feb 1917 and is buried at Ploegsteert in Flanders aged 33.
