About the memorial: This is not a war memorial 4km west of Crieff 84' Aberdeen granite obelisk: square base with panels commemorating the victories of Sir David Baird (1757-1829). Erected 1832 on site of castle of Tom a' Chaisteil. Damaged by thunderbolt, 1878. Tall tapering granite obelisk with a main dedication plaque and 3 subsidiary plaques. There is a car park on the south side of Taylor Park in Crieff. Cross the bridge over Turret Burn and immediately turn left at the signpost for 'Lady Mary's Walk'. The walk continues down a dismantled railway line following the River Earn. After about 3 kms you will see the high hillock topped with the stone needle - Sir David Baird's Monument. Full set of photos on the links. Could technically be rejected as a war memorial as he died peacefully after a distinguished career but worth recording as a memorial which deserves to be properly maintained in future.

As a conservation charity which gives grants War Memorials Trust can support repair and conservation works that follow best conservation practice. Grants are awarded from funds raised by the charity so money available is limited and is therefore focused on eligible war memorials.

War Memorials Trust’s Definition of a war memorial for funding purposes helpsheet explains which war memorials are eligible and ineligible for funding.

As a charity, War Memorials Trust relies on voluntary donations and every contribution, no matter how large or small, makes a really big difference to our work. Your donation will help protect and conserve war memorials for future generations so please support War Memorials Trust’s work.
