About the memorial: 84' Aberdeen granite obelisk: square base with panels commemorating the victories of Sir David Baird (1757-1829). Erected 1832 on site of castle of Tom a' Chaisteil. Damaged by thunderbolt, 1878. Tall tapering granite obelisk with a main dedication plaque and 3 subsidiary plaques. There is a car park on the south side of Taylor Park in Crieff. Cross the bridge over Turret Burn and immediately turn left at the signpost for 'Lady Mary's Walk'. The walk continues down a dismantled railway line following the River Earn. After about 3 kms you will see the high hillock topped with the stone needle - Sir David Baird's Monument. Full set of photos on the links. Could technically be rejected as a war memorial as he died peacefully after a distinguished career but worth recording as a memorial which deserves to be properly maintained in future.
