Note A memorial window was also placed in his old school but Pte Peacock's family are now looking for a permanent home for the window after the school was demolished.

Memorial bench to soldier Nick will take pride of place in Grantham town centre

 A commemorative bench to a Granthamian who was killed by a bomb in Ireland 27 years ago, is to take a deserving spot on St Peter’s Hill. 
Last week the Journal reported on how a beautiful bench had been created in memory of soldier Nick Peacock, thanks to the efforts of his childhood friend Glenn Wormall and local businesses.

Their dream was to see the stunning seat placed in the centre of town, and now this is to become a reality with the agreement of South Kesteven District Council. After receiving confirmation from SKDC, Glenn said: “I am overwhelmed. I was in tears when they told me. The support has been brilliant, and I have had so many kind messages from people about it. I hope lots of people attend the unveiling.” 
The official unveiling of the bench will take place on St Peter’s Hill, Grantham from 12pm on Sunday, May 8, and will include attendance by members of Nick’s regiment, the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Anglian Regiment, known as ‘The Poachers’. Born and bred in Grantham, Nick joined the army as a teenager, but in 1989 was tragically killed by a drainpipe bomb on the Falls Road in Belfast. He was aged just 20.

His neighbour and friend Glenn was determined to create a fitting memorial in the town, and as well as expressing his gratitude to SKDC, has added his thanks once again to the Grantham businessmen who worked together in order to create Nick’s bench free of charge - Roll and Scroll, Pentangle Fabrications, Pentangle Engineering, Arraquip and Mascot Powder Coating. SKDC’s business manager, venues and facilities, Paul Stokes, added: “We are proud to be able to add this fitting tribute to a well known public area within Grantham. The bench will add character to the surrounding area and provide a lasting memory not only for Nick Peacock, but for all of our brave servicemen and women who have sadly died in service to their country.”

Ceremony marks 30th anniversary of death of Grantham soldier killed by the IRA

Family and colleagues of a Grantham soldier who was killed by the IRA have commemorated him in a special ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.

The ceremony was held in Grantham cemetery at the grave of Nick Peacock who died aged 20 in February 1989. Members of Nick's family and 35 former soldiers attended a short and dignified ceremony.

Private Peacock was Grantham-born and had been a pupil at St Wulfram’s School. He joined the Royal Anglian Regiment. In January 1989, the Poachers deployed to West Belfast from Celle in Germany for a six month tour.

On the night of January 31-February 1, 1989, Pte Peacock, who was serving with B Company and operating out of Royal Ulster Constabulary New Barnsley station, was killed by a Provisional IRA improvised explosive device outside the Rock Bar on the Falls Road.He was killed less than a month into his duty in Northern Ireland with his regiment’s 2nd Battalion.
