About the memorial: Three light vertical stained glass window. Two full-length angels on left light, one kneeling. Full-length figure of Christ holding crown on centre light and on bank of stream, which has reeds and water lilies. Full-length figure of human male on right light. Male is in full armour and wears sheathed sword. Inscription in black lettering at base of window and runs horizontally across all three lights. Inserted in the north wall of the nave, approx 4000mm x 1750mm.

DE ASTONIAN KILLED AT THE FRONT
	Among the list of killed reported from the general headquarters of the Expeditionary Force, under date of 17th Sept, appears the name of Second-Lieutenant J. S. Paulson, of the Lancashire Fusiliers, a former pupil at the Market Rasen De Aston School. This is the first recorded casualty amongst the many De Astonians who are serving their King and country. Lieut. Paulson was captain of the De Aston school cricket eleven in 1907. He obtained a leaving scholarship, and went straight to London University, where he graduated in 1912, taking B.Sc. degree with third class honours. He then went to Newcastle-under-Lyne Grammar School. Subsequently taking up a commission in the Lancashire Fusiliers. When at school he was greatly liked by his fellow students. He was a native of Kirton, Boston.

	Special mention was made at the evening service at the Parish Church, Kirton, on Sunday, of the death of Lieut. Paulson. Special prayers were offered and the “Dead March” was played by Mr Chester, the organist. A special intercessory service was also held on Tuesday morning at seven o’clock

	Having passed safely through the battles of Mons and the Marne. Second-Lieutenant J. S. Paulson, eldest son of Mr. H. J. And Mrs. Paulson, of Kirton, near Boston, has been killed during the battle of the Aisne. Lieutenant \Paulson was born on October 31st 1889. He was educated at Kirton Grammar School and De Aston School, Market Rasen: he passed the Junior and |Senior Cambridge Examinations with Honours, and also passed the London University Matriculation Examination on July 12th 1907, and obtained the leaving scholarship in the same year. In October, 1907, he went to London University, and passed the intermediate examination for Bachelor of Science on July 21st, 1908, and obtained his B.Sc, degree with honours in chemistry on December 13th, 1911. While at the University he obtain his Blue for lacrosse. He was appointed science master at Middle School, Newcastle-under-Lyme, in April, 1912, and was there until July last. During his University career he joined the Officers’ Training Corps, and served four years with them, rising to the rank of cadet sergeant, and obtained the necessary certificates enabling him to qualify for a commission in his Majesty’s army, and was granted second-lieutenant of the Lancashire Fusiliers (Special Reserve) in August, 1911. And on the embodiment of the 2nd Battalion he joined them, and left for the front at the outbreak of the war.

BRITISH GALLANTRY AT THE AISNE
	News from the front shows that Lieut. J. S. Paulson, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Paulson, of Kirton, was killed by shrapnel, during the first three fighting on the Aisne, when taking the village of St. Merguerite. He was buried with military honours in the village churchyard
	Lieut. Paulson was ordered, with his platoon, to take this village. He proceeded to do so and was getting through the place when he fell mortally wounded at the head of his men. Supports, who were following up, afterwards obtained procession of the village.
	Three gallant attempts were made by his men to bring in Lieut. Paulson after he fell, and during this service two heroic solders were killed and two wounded. Eventually, the body of the unfortunate young officer was recovered, but he died almost immediately in the field ambulance, to which he was removed. He came through unscathed through Mons and Marno, where his regiment was in the thick of the fighting. In order to effect the object at St. Merguerite, his platoon had to cross a stream, or canal, on a narrow plank over which they were led by the intrepid lieutenant, before he was shot down.
