About the memorial: Rough-hewn wheel cross which stands around 3m tall, on a plinth with rounded upper corner and a flat front face with recessed inscription panel, all on a three-stepped concrete base. The plinth bears the inscriptions in incised and blacked lettering. The memorial was erected within a memorial garden that was created off Main Street. It was designed and erected by Messrs Wells and Company, monumental masons of nearby Hugglesctoe, at a cost of £75. The grounds were laid out by Messrs G Hart, of Measham. The memorial commemorates seven local servicemen who fell in the First World War, and was unveiled on Sunday 26 February 1922 by Colonel German DSO.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
