Setting: Within a garden/park/churchyard/enclosure/Marketplace
Description: Latin cross
Materials:
  • Stone Stone (any)

  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: A simple, white stoned, 5ft high Latin Cross set on a 3 step square base standing on a hill overlooking Loch Glencoul. The top 2 steps show dedication in black incised lettering. This memorial is thought to be the remotest in Scotland. There is no road access and no post code. To reach the memorial site it is necessary to hire a boat from Kylesku, about 3 miles by boat, or an 8 to 10 hour round trip walk from Unapool in remote and tough terrain. In 2009 there was some lead lettering missing. There is a wall round the memorial to protect it from sheep, but not the elements. Restored in 2020- images attached from the Great war Forum
