About the memorial: The war memorial commemorates the 26 men and 1 lady who died whilst on active service, from 1939 to 1972. They all lived in the parish of Hawksworth wood, Leeds 5, West Yorkshire. On the other side of the memorial stone are the 5 names of the men killed during the bombing of Kirkstall forge, there is also an etching of a piece of machinery from the forge. The memorial is of red polished granite and is located outside the co-operative store, Broadway LS5 3PR. We have a Facebook page 'Hawksworth wood memorial project'

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
