About the memorial: The school's original WW1 memorial cairn was demolished in the 1950. The names on it were transcribed to this new roll of honour, designed by Ealing School of Art, and dedicated 12th October 1954.

THE NAMES ARE RECORDED BELOW OF TWO TEACHERS AND ONE/ HUNDRED AND NINE OLD BOYS OF ST JOHNS SCHOOL KILLED IN/ THE WAR OF 1914 1918/ (NAMES)/ THESE NAMES WERE FORMERLY INSCRIBED IN THE PLAYGROUND OF THE SCHOOL ON A MONUMENT/ UNVEILED IN 1920 BY HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS LOUISE DUCHESS OF ARGYLL. MEMORIAL STONES/ WERE LAID BY HER MAJESTY QUEEN ALEXANDRA. HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF CONNAUGHT/ FIELD MARSHAL EARL FRENCH, ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET EARL JELLICOE & REAR ADMIRAL E.R.G. EVANS/ THE MONUMENT DETERIORATED WITH AGE & WAS REMOVED IN 1954/ THIS ROLL OF HONOUR WAS DAMAGED BY FIRE IN DECEMBER 1982. IT WAS RESTORED IN SEPTEMBER 1996
