About the memorial: This plaque is situated at the top of the main staircase leading from the Ramsden street entrance to the Town Hall. In 1920 the Medium Battery was formed in Huddersfield as a Territorial Army Unit of the Royal Garrison Artillery. During World War2 many men were drawn from ICI and Huddersfield Old Boys Rugby Club. The Battery went to France in April1940, being evacuated from Dunkirk in May. After four years training and defence duties it returned to France, forming part of the Normandy invasion in June 1944. It fought through Northern France, Holland and into Germany, until VE Day, and disbanded in Germany in August 1945. An Old Comrades Association was formed and remained active until 2002. Those lads did their job and did it well. Sergeant Pollit, France 1940
