About the memorial: Two Oak Boards set in a chaste frame of unvarnished oak with a figure of St George in the centre between the two boards, each board has 2 columns of names. School crest and motto below it. [this is the contemporaneous description], with a 2 column addition to the right later added for WW2. Made by Keswick School of Industrial Arts, unveiled 16 February 1921 by Colonel Spedding, extension unveiled 4 July 1948 by Lieutenant Colonel J A Oglethorpe TD- old boy, served in WW1 & WW2, rededicated by Canon B G Lloyd Wilson- Vicar of Kirkoswald, an old boy. It was formerly at the Old School Building, Rawnsley Hall in the centre of Keswick (next to The Co-op) until the school concentrated activities on the one site.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
