About the memorial: Marbled red Alabaster Plaque laid horizontal on a window sill. Note that the book referenced in the inscription is neither at St Cuthbert's Church or in the Parish Archives at Carlisle Archive Centre and is presumed lost. St Mary's Church was within the grounds of Carlisle Cathedral. When that Church closed the tablet was moved to St Paul's Church- when that closed in 1978 and became Elim Pentecostal it was then moved to St Cuthbert's. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
