About the memorial: Mr and Mrs Insole bore the cost of the memorial which was originally mounted, together with his sword, in Llandaf Cathedral. The Cathedral was severely damaged by an enemy landmine in 1941. During restoration the memorial was never remounted and the sword was lost. The Cathedral donated the plaque, for safe keeping, to the Insole Court Trust to be mounted at Insole Court.
