About the memorial: Rough hewn stone of remembrance. Names are inscribed directly on the stone, the dedication is on a brass plaque attached to the stone below the names (neither names or inscription can be read from the only available photograph. May 17 is the Norwegian Constitution Day.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

[9 names]/Reist 17. mai 1980 til minne om ni unge menn som 20. febr. 1941 flyktet fra Haugesund - Norge med motorskøyta Kantonella. Alle omkom da båten (then comes an illegible word) ble knust mot land på Mid Yell - then another illegible word - then to 27. febr. 1941. [In English, the above means: Erected May 17, 1980 in memory of nine young men who escaped from Haugesund, Norway with the motor vessel Kantonella. They all died when the vessel was crushed on shore at Mid Yell.]
