About the memorial: Permanent memorial to 11 Group RAF Fighter Command and the 4th Fighter Group US 8th Air Force (the Eagles). Unveiled and dedicated at former RAF Debden, now Carver Barracks (Royal Engineers), on 19 September 2015 to coincide with national events in the UK to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The unveiling was performed by William Clark, a 95-year-old WW11 RAF Veteran who learnt to fly Hurricanes at RAF Debden. Wreaths were laid by Major Caleb Guthmann, 492nd Fighter Squadron USAAF Lakenheath, and Wg Cdr David Wilkinson, Deputy Provost Marshall, RAF Honington. A flypast was provided by a Spitfire, Mustang and Harvard. A memorial to commemorate the role of RAF Debden in protecting south-east England in the Second World War, including during the Battle of Britain, was conceived by Keith Braybrooke, author of "Wingspan", the history of RAF Debden. The memorial area also contains a commemorative stone to the Eagles Squadron stationed at Debden between 1942 and 1945. The RAF memorial was provided by Uttlesford District Council and the memorial area is maintained by the local community.
