About the memorial: The site of the Village Hall, the dedication is a painting of Lieutenant Chalmers inside the Hall. Archibald Douglas Chalmers, Lieutenant 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Age 29. Born 1880 at Ayr. Son of Archibald and Anne Jane (Cowan) Chalmers of Kipp House, Kippford, Dalbeattie. Educated at Merchiston Castle, Edinburgh he went to Ceylon in 1913 to take up tea planting. He returned in February 1916, trained at Gailes O.T.C. and was gazetted 2nd Lt. A&SH in August 1916. He joined the battalion in Salonica in September 1917. Died 9 December 1918 from enteric fever at No. 28 General Hospital, buried at Mikra British Cemetery Kalamaria, Greece. He is also named on a memorial in Christ Church Warleigh, Dikoya, Sri Lanka- a Bronze Roll of Honour
