About the memorial: Memorial to Captain Rhys Price, 1st Battalion Welsh Regiment, who died on 3 Mar 1900 of blood poisoning at Modder River, near Ritchie, Cape Colony. Originally buried at the military cemetery, Modder River but later reinterred in West End Cemetery, Kimberley, Northern Province, South Africa. Also to 7301 Lance Corporal William Logie Lloyd Fitzwilliams of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders who contracted enteric fever (typhoid) at De Aar on his way home and died at Netley Hospital, Southampton almost immediately on his return on 20 May 1901.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
