About the memorial: One of two windows of similar design from the William Morris Company created around 1953 which sit across from one another in the church and are dedicated to three Holdsworth brothers, two of whom were killed in WW2. (See WMO 275024 for the other.) This is a four light window in memory of Major John Holdsworth, who is depicted in battle dress carrying a Bren gun, with a German helmet at his feet in the right-hand of the central lights. An angel is shown behind him placing a crown upon his head, and beneath is the Latin text, Morte sua nobis vitam redemerunt (In the midst of life we are in death). The badges of the British Army and the King's Royal Rifle Corps are in the traceries above. His weapon points towards the dragon which St George is shown slaying in the light to his left. Of the outer lights, the left-hand one depicts St Francis, surrounded by birds, with a lamb at his feet, and the right-hand one depicts St Hubert, cradling the stag he has rescued, with hunting dogs at his feet. Within roundels beneath these figures are, left, an angler casting his line, and, right, a gamekeeper with dog flushing game. A small brass plaque carrying an enameled inscription is on the wall below.
