About the memorial: Public Hall. Note that there is no plaque or other commemoration inside the hall. There is a report of the opening of the memorial hall published in the Wigtownshire Free Press of 25th December 1924 (page 5). The hall was opened by Mrs William Forster who was well known as one of the greatest sufferers from the war. She was handed the key by the Countess of Stair. This was intended as a memorial for those who returned. The memorial to those who died is 'a little further up the hill' i.e. outside the parish church.
