From The Scotsman 04 February 1922.-WAR MEMORIALS- LORETTO SCHOOL.— Designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, A.R.S.A., a beautifully carved oaken organ loft screen, to the memory of 141 old boys and 2 masters, who fell in the war, was unveiled in Loretto School, Musselburgh, yesterday afternoon. Panels bearing the names flank a central recessed, canopied panel, on which appears the following inscription:— "To the glory of God and in proud memory of the sons of Loretto, who in the greatest of all wars, by land and sea and air, faced death for freedom, and passed out of the sight of men." In the course of the fully choral service, conducted by Rev. C. W. Wordsworth, the names of those who had given their lives were read. Thereafter, Mrs Almond, widow of Dr H. Almond, the famous "Head" of Loretto, whose three sons all fell in the war, unveiled the memorial, and a brief address was given by Mr C. J. G. Paterson, chairman of the Directors of the school. A small stone altar, part of the memorial, was also dedicated. Mr H. B. Tristram, brother-in-law of Dr Almond, who succeeded him as headmaster, was present, as also Mr A. R. Smith, who is headmaster of Loretto today.
