About the memorial: Crenelated octagonal tower built in the gothic style, 70 feet (21 mt.) high with a diameter of 24 feet (8 mt.). Interior spiral staircase with three levels. Exterior plaques commemorate Nelson victories at The Nile, Copenhagen and Trafalgar.The rooms at each level are decorated with historic pictures of Forres and some Nelson memorabilia. Two cannons are placed at the entrance. A ‘Trafalgar Club’ was formed by the subscribers to Nelson’s monument in 1807. Members met on the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar - 21 October 1805. Originally the group met at Maclean’s Inn, Forres. Later meetings were held at Nelson’s Tower. The club transferred its assets to Forres Town Council in 1851. The Moray District Council became guardians of the Tower in 1975. Restored after a fire in 1900 by John Forrest.
