  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: A painted board recording the Peace Peal rung on the church bells on December 13th 1919. The rectangle board is surmounted by a triangular section across its width, in the centre of which a shaped recess has been carved out, with a half-relief carving of a bell in its centre. This is surmounted by a lettered scroll. Red-painted beading outlines both this triangle and the rectangular board beneath. The lettering is mainly yellow/ gold on a black background, with red underlining beneath some of the text. The main subject of the text relates to the Peace Peal rung to commemorate the end of the Great War, and the welcoming home of those who returned. It also commemorates the recovery of one of the ringers from wounds received in the war. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, and is the only bell-ringer so honoured, and the French Medaille Militaire.
