About the memorial: Wooden Board. Originally at the County Secondary School in Node Hill, Newport, Isle of Wight. Whern that closed relocated to Carisbrooke High School, Mountbatten Drive, Newport, which has now been renamed as a College. Designed by Mr Twyman (an employee of J S White's) and crafted by Mr Warren of Ryde. The Unveiling and dedication service took place on the 18th October 1919 [as reported in the IoW County Press of 25th October 1919)] and was conducted by the school principal Miss Monk, B.A. Restored and reinstalled in November 1999. Rededication ceremony performed by the Rev Mike Excell on 8th November 1999. Note that there are now 36 old boys commemorated, not the 32 stated in the unveiling report in the Isle of Wight County Press for the WW2 memorial.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
