About the memorial: Nowy headed stone tablet on a dark wooden headboard. The dedication is inlaid in black gothic lettering and the names are inlaid in black capital lettering. Various mission stations existed at Aitkenhead, Nackerty, Newlands, Tannochside and Thornwood, the earliest meeting in Nackerty Scool being in 1866. Bothwell Parish Church of Scotland, Park Parish Church and Bellshill Free Church became associated with the growth of Churches from the various mission stations. Thornwood Church was opened on 24 September 1893, Bothwellpark Free Church in 1896 [now closed and demolished] and Aitkenhead United Free Church in 1905. In 1933 Thornwood, Aitkenhead and Bothwellpark united to form Viewpark Parish Church. The Church as it is now along with the Small Hall was the former Thornwood Church and Hall

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
