About the memorial: Brass Plaque. The Scotsman - Wednesday 3 January 1912 DEATH OF A YOUNG SCOTTISH OFFICER- Intimation has been received that Lieutenant - Charles Augustus Macalister , the eldest son of Major Macalister of Glenburn and Cour , Argyllshire , has died of scarlet fever at the British Legation at Peking . Lieutenant Macalister was born in 1883 , and joined his regiment , the Cameron Highlanders ( 1 st Battalion ) , in 1904 . His death . causes deep regret in Kintyre and is especially mourned by the tenantry on his father's estates , by whom his winsome and courteous . qualities were much appreciated .
