About the memorial: Memorial to Lance Sergeant Herbert John Bone, City Imperial Volunteers. A Colour Sergeant in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Middlesex Regiment. Volunteered for service in South during the Second Anglo Boer War. Died of disease on 13 Jul 1900 in the military hospital at Frankfort, Orange Free State aged 24 years.

The City of London Imperial Volunteers. In memory of Herbert John Bone, a Lance Sergeant in this Regiment and Colour Sergeant in the 2nd VB Middlesex Regiment. Son of John and Sarah Harriet Bone of this Parish. He died at Frankfort July 13th 1900 during the South African Campaign aged 24 years.
