About the memorial: Rectangular (portrait) stone tablet, with engraved inscription in black lettering, commemorating casualties in both World Wars. (The original WW1 memorial tablet was rectangular landscape, but was later remodelled to incorporate an extra piece of stone bearing the WW2 inscription), on the north exterior wall. In July 1952 the original WW1 tablet was removed from its former location at Annet House. The bottom edge of the moulding was removed from that tablet, and an additional section was joined to it, bearing the inscription re the WW2 casualties. The work was done in such a way that the two pieces of stone became one memorial, with the moulding surrounding both. That revised tablet was installed on the external north wall of Linlithgow Police Station in Court Square in July 1952. When the Police subsequently vacated the building, the memorial was left in situ, and remained so when the building was put up for sale in 2019. (The current status, as at 14 December 2019, is that the premises is "under offer"). Unveiled 11 March 1924 by Sir Charles Chambers and dedicated by Reverend Dr Findlay, Unveiled 20 August 1952 - The joint WW1/WW2 memorial was unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant, Colonel H.M. Cadell OBE. Linlithgowshire Gazette 14 March 1924 (page 4) reported the unveiling of the WW1 tablet at the Police Station, "on the wall adjoining the Post Office". The report included biographical data re the two casualties. Note that Alexander John Ralph (WW2) was from Tobermory, where he is buried
