About the memorial: Red leather bound elaborately illuminated Book of Remembrance with title tooled in gold lettering on the cover. Book placed within a carved wooden box. Book contains King George V's address to the nation and Lord Kitchener's salute to the fallen. In the pages after the names are photographs, letters to families, postcards and diary entries which tell of the day to day experiences of Arisaig's war effort. A facsimile copy of this book is on view in The Land Sea & Islands Centre and a copy of it can be bought on CD-ROM. The book was commissioned by Arthur and Gertude Nicholson who had lost both their sons-Arthur and William- in the war. It was originally in the Village Hall where it was rediscovered in 2000. Originally it was in a glass fronted wooden case-it is not clear if that is so now.
