About the memorial: A modern sculpture set between the lights of the WW1 Memorial Window. An explanatory plaque beneath it explains its design: "... based on the explosive forms of the Hedgehogs of World War II.... Attached are... a section of a helmet... tailpiece of an aircraft... punctured armour plate... a reminder of punctured flesh...." Details of the designer are given at the bottom.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

On the sculpture itself: To all/ who have died/ as a result of/ war and violence/ We will/ remember/ them On the plaque beneath: To all who have died/ as a result of War and Violence/ The above Memorial evokes Isaiah 2.4/ these will hammer their swords into ploughshares, their swords into sickles./ Nation will not lift sword against nation, there will be no more training for war/ The design is based on the explosive forms of the Hedgehogs of World War II/ These were to impeded Landing Craft on the Normandy beaches/ Attached are a sickle shaped section of a helmet/ the tailpiece of an aircraft forming the primitive shape of a hatchet/ and a punctured armour plate, a reminder of the punctured flesh of the combatants./ This memorial was designed by Bryan Dutton an architect and a member of the Parish
