About the memorial: Roll of Honour painted on timber board; St Boniface Portsea was a mission church of St Mary Portsea, which is an enormous edifice in Portsmouth, which at one time had five mission churches under its umbrella, and in 1914 the vicar of the parish was supported by 15 curates. St Boniface was demolished in approximately 1960 and the small footprint was redeveloped for housing. St Mary's, where this memorial has been discovered is the recipient of a HLF grant to rebuild its 1890's pipe organ, and during the first stage of dismantling the organ some work was done in what was effectively a basement. (The church was rebuilt in the 1880's so we are not talking crypts). Workers have uncovered the memorial of the "White Company" in this location. Access is limited to maintenance work, and through a small metal hatchway too small to permit extraction of the memorial.
