About the memorial: The Phillip Currass Memorial Stainless Steel Sun Dial is set on a piece of rock from Radnor Quarry which was close to where he lived whilst serving with 22 Special Air Service. The memorial is part of the Falklands Memorial Way and the Special Air Service Gardens in the Grove and is just outside the Sun Room. This fine memorial was provided by his family.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Staff Sergeant Phillip Currass joined D. Squadron 22 SAS from the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1972. He served on operational tours in Dhofar, Oman and Northern Island where he was awarded the Queens Gallentry Medal. During the Falklands Conflict he helped liberate South Georgia and Raided Pebble Island to destroy enemy aircraft. On the 19th May 1982 he was lost during a ship to ship transfer prior to carrying out a diversionary raid near Goose Green.
