About the memorial: This giant Sequoia tree seat is dedicated to Sgt. Vince Phillips. It was carved by Mike Colton and transported to the Grove in 2006. On the left hand side of the seat is a metal plaque on a stand in honour of Vince. It should be noted that he was only one of a few that completed the Para, Marine and SAS selections and served with 16 Para RAOC 1972-76, Royal Marine Commando Ordnance 1976-83 and "A" Squadron 22 SAS 1983-91.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

This tree seat is dedicated to the memory of Vince Phillips a member of the Bravo Two Zero patrol who tragically lost his life in January 1991 whilst serving with 22 SAS Regiment behind enemy lines during the 1st Gulf War. His courage and that of all others who fought helped free the people of Kuwait from abject slavery. Much loved son and bright light for Jim and Veronica Phillips. Loving brother to Sue, Jeffery and Steven. Husband of Dee and father of Sharon and Lucy. 'A light has gone out of this world' Established 2006
