About the memorial: This memorial established in 2008 honours the four SAS soldiers who lost their lives. Vince Phillips, Robert Consiglio and Steven Lane were part of the Bravo Two Zero Patrol and David Denbury was killed in a separate action. In January 1991 during the first Iraq War a eight man patrol from 22 SAS Regiment were airlifted behind by helicopter behind enemy lines to locate and destroy enemy communication cables and Scud mobile missile launchers. Scud missiles were used against Israel in an attempt to get them to attack Iraq, possibly with nuclear weapons. From the outset the mission was compromised by enemy troops and civilians in the landing zone.
