About the memorial: The Sun Room sits in the centre of the Allied Special Forces Memorial Grove with views down each of the memorial ways. It is made of French Oak and constructed by Oakwrights of Hereford. The roof and other finishing work was completed by members of the Allied Special Forces Association in early 2012. Jack Hesmondhalgh was an Air gunner and Radio Operator who was shot down over Brest Harbour during WW2. He survived the war and returned to other RAF duties afterwards. Jack was a stalwart of the Hereford Air Gunners Association and served as Chairman of the Allied Special Forces Association from 2001-2010. A tribute to Jack is fitted over each of the entrance ways.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
