About the memorial: Nowy-headed rectangular stone tablet, set within a black frame, in the Public Enquiry area. At top-centre is a relief-carved laurel wreath, containing the Warrington Borough Police crest. This is flanked by furled banners. The incised inscription is in three columns, the central one having a Latin cross and the names of the Fallen; the outer two columns record the names of those who served and survived. Beneath that main section, the words PRO PATRIA are inscribed. N.B. The WW1 memorial is known to have omitted to mention that one of those who served, Walter W. Cooke, had been awarded the Cross of the Order of St George by the Czar of Russia, and may therefore have likewise omitted decorations received by others. (As far as is known, no memorial was erected re the six Warrington Borough Police officers who are known to have died in WW2).
