About the memorial: Wooden (Jarrah wood) cross with bronze dedication plaque, in the piled up wreckage of the aircraft. The site can only be reached on foot and is about 5 miles west of Kielder in Kielder Forest. At times access much of the way may be possible by mountain bike on unsurfaced forest tracks, but these are subject to short notice closure for forestry operations and due to nesting ospreys. The last part of the approach is a very rough and difficult half hour's walk. Please be suitably equipped and ensure someone is aware of your intentions, for safety Tip if visiting; approach from Leaplish (which is about 4 miles south of Kielder) and follow the beck to the debris which is at National Grid Reference NY 57852 86220

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
