About the memorial: A framed copy of a Douglas Town Council resolution, bearing the seal of the Corporation, adorned with the Borough Arms and a watercolour of The Tower of Refuge [a well known local landmark in Douglas Bay]. HMS St George was a shore-based training establishment on the Isle of Man which closed in 1945. The personnel were transferred to HMS Ganges, another shore-based training establishment at Shotley, and this memorial went with them. That establishment closed in 1976, it is not known for sure what then happened to the memorial- whether or not it went to the HMS Ganges Museum- any information would be welcome.
